HUNT DATES: saturday 22 & SUNDAY 23 June
Enjoy a truffle hunt right on the doorstep of the Festival Village, at Fonty's Pool Farm.
With a beautiful orchard of 45,000 avocado trees, producing thousands of tonnes of fruit each year, Fonty’s Pool Farm evolved in 2001 with the planting of oak, cork and hazelnut trees.
The Farm produces the magnificent perigold black truffle which is not only sold locally and internationally, but is also used within products such as truffle oil, salt, mustard, aioli and pasta sauce.
Situated on over 188 hectares and with deep Karri loam soils, Fonty’s Pool Farm is full of rolling hills and surrounded by Karri forests.
Alyssa Cowgill is a professional hunter situated in the beautiful Karri forests of Pemberton, along with her team of 4 dogs – her old faithful Labrador Nugget, a loyal kelpie by the name Biddie, a stunning husky cross called Mia and the newest kid on the block Macca, a young black Labrador.
These highly trained dogs spend 3 months of the year hunting various farms, including Fonty’s Pool Farm, for the famous and delicious delicacy. Although truffles are only found during the winter months, Alyssa keeps her dogs working year round using obedience, agility and scenting games.
Join Alyssa, along with Hunt Guides Paul Robinson of Silverwood Truffles (Saturday) and Anne Mitchell of Timeless Hill (Sunday), and see what it’s all about. Interact with the dogs, trainers, guides and learn about this great fungus causing a stir in the south.
