APPEARING AT: forager's seasonal truffle dinner
Sophie Zalokar is a chef, author and co-owner of Foragers Field Kitchen and Cooking School in Pemberton. Born and raised in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, Sophie began her training and awakening as a chef at the age of 17. As one of Maggie Beer's first apprentices at the Pheasant Farm Restaurant she could hardly have had a better grounding to become the chef she is today in the Southern Forests region.
From those days in the Barossa, Sophie has been on a global journey with food, from North America to Europe, pausing in Western Australia in 1990. At the culinary helm of Foragers Field Kitchen and Cooking School, Sophie’s weekly long-table dinners and year round, bespoke cooking classes have become a must visit, drawing an international clientele. Sophie’s sold out book, Food of the Southern Forests (UWAP,) drew critical acclaim; a record of the Southern Forests and its rich food heritage, it is a must read for lovers of both food and rich social history.
